Sorry for them small guys below the GIF. I’m still trying to figure out the quickest way to upload straight from the Surface without having to think about it. Shit’ll be bigger, I promise.

Scooter’s Wings

March 19, 2009

Here’s the deal. I’m coming to Pittsburgh for about four days and five nights.
The reason?

Voice actors.

In my last post, I left a brief description of characters to be featured in my upcoming short, Scooter’s Wings (still in very early pre-production.) There are six main characters, and a few supplementary voices. This trip will be for voice testing; no final audio assets. I just want to figure out who will work best for the characters. Here is a rip from my last entry about the characters.

1.) Father figure. Mid 30s. Business man who is constantly on the run. Adores his family but is often to busy to show it. Usually speaks in a rushed and busy tone.

2.) Mother figure. Mid 30s. Nurturing mother figure. Godlike multitasker who has an innate ability to keep the family unit together and happy. Usually keeps composure but loses it every now and then. Archetype of the “Leave it to Beaver” mom is voice and behavior.

3.) Teenage daughter. 15 years old with a cellphone attached to her ear. Dismissive of reality outside of social networking sites and text messages. Very annoyed by her entire family with no interest in speaking unless you’re in her “Top 5.” Calls for typical “apathetic pre-teen” vocal work.

4.) Overacheiver son. 11 years old. Boyscout, valedictorian of the 5th grade, etc. Total ass kissing mama’s boy. Terrified of his youger brother. Speaks with the utmost pride and pronunciation.

5.) Scooter. Main character. 5 years old. A little boy with the most overactive imagination ever…imagined. Spends most of his time in alternate states of imagined reality. Adores his mother, father, and late grandfather. Terrorizes his brother and sister.

6.) Grandfather figure. Late 60s-Early 70s. Seen only in flashbacks. Very few lines. Not to sound “senior citizen” old, but more like an adventurous, experienced, awe-inspiring old man.
Supplementary voices will be that of primarily pilots and news anchors. I’m not sure if I’ll have extended readings for these roles at this time, but I’ll be keeping people in mind for them throughout the primary casting.

ALSO. If you can for whatever reason do a bad ass dinosaur roar, PLEASE volunteer yourself to the cause. You’ll have a very good role, I assure you. I’m talking Jurassic Park quality here, but I’m all for something unique. I KNOW someone can do it.

What I need to know is:
1.) Obviously, if you’re interested.

2.) If the anytime between Saturday, April 11th and Monday April 13th would be a good time to voice test.
Lemme know soon so I can book some tickets!

Also, it’s obvious no one really works for free. We can work out payment on a person to person basis, be it monetary or something else. I plan on this production being a very big deal, so recognition will be a big factor…but who the hell wants recognition over a couple of bucks? Let’s talk.
Cheers!

Work is officially amazing. I’m 100% in love with what I’m doing. I don’t know what I did to deserve being here, but I’m sure as hell thankful for it.

I’ve been concepting all week, and it’s really great to get the feedback (and sometimes praise) that we all wanted throughout school. These guys know their shit, and I wouldn’t change anything about the team at Xaviant. I got my first drawings up on the concept wall, and even though they’re far from impressive it’s a really cool feeling. That’s the wall I’ve wanted to be a part of since I played fucking Mega Man 2 with my mom. It’s an even cooler feeling when the CO of the company comes in and thinks what you’re doing is great. I’m gonna do my best do to a lot of great things for this game; we’ve every intention of getting this thing to AAA status.

I’ve been hanging out with Rob–our lead animator–a lot since I got down here. Even though he’s from California, he’s a breath of Pittsburgh-esque fresh air. I had a feeling when I first met him that we’d hit it off, and it’s nice to have someone to hang around with. A new environment artist, Derek, also started this week. He lives in the building next to at Archstone, and thankfully he’s a real cool cat too. Pretty much everyone here is really interesting anf fun to talk to. I’m definitely not accustomed to that, but I’m certainly appreciative.

I have to interject here to say that I just cooked the hottest burger I’ve ever had in my life. I should stop slathering hot sauce onto everything I eat.

Outside of the work world, I’ve finally settled into a comfortable state at the apartment. I’m cleaning, I’m grocery shopping, I’m playing games, and most importantly I’m working on more of my projects again. I started laying out some lines of dialog for Scooter’s Wings, and I’m officially re-brainstorming for my invasion epic, Do You Hear What I Hear?

On this note, it would make sense to say that I will soon be on the hunt for voice actors for Scooter’s Wings. I’ve got a few people that I would like to contact, but if you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at voice acting, I’d love to be your avenue for it.
This is a very premature “casting call” as the script isn’t even written yet, but like I said, if you think you may be interested, lemme know. The characters are as follows:

1.) Father figure. Mid 30s. Business man who is constantly on the run. Adores his family but is often to busy to show it.

2.) Mother figure. Mid 30s. Nurturing mother figure. Godlike multitasker who has an innate ability to keep the family unit together and happy. Usually keeps composure but loses it every now and then.

3.) Teenage daughter. 15 years old with a cellphone attached to her ear. Dismissive of reality outside of social networking sites and text messages. Very annoyed by her entire family with no interest in speaking unless you’re in her “Top 5.”

4.) Overacheiver son. 11 years old. Boyscout, valedictorian of the 5th grade, etc. Total ass kissing mama’s boy. Terrified of his youger brother.

5.) Scooter. Main character. 5 years old. A little boy with the most overactive imagination ever…imagined. Spends most of his time in alternate states of imagined reality. Adores his mother, father, and late grandfather. Terrorizes his brother and sister.

6.) Grandfather figure. Lates 60s-Early 70s. Seen only in flashbacks. Very few lines. An excited old man.
Again, this isn’t anything that would be taking off IMMEDIATELY, but it will be happening soon. I’ll be tackling this short on my own, so it’s very likely that I’ll be handling everything save the music, which my good and talented friend Stephen (http://www.stephentammearu.com/) has volunteered for. Considering the bulk of you may reside in Pittsburgh, I will be planning a trip to come up for voice tests sometime in the near future, so we’ll have to keep one another posted.
I’m gonna start posting sketches and such on this blog as per request of my friend Lance. Sadly I don’t have anything scanned to kick off today, but I’ll be back for it.

Cheers,
IK

February 19, 2009

Work’s picking up for sure. Finally got to concepting some characters today, and will likely continue on through the end of the week. It’s sinking in that I’m actually making a living out of this and that’s pretty fucking wild.

The dudes I work with are great. The animator I’m office-sharing with, Rob, is a real cool guy. He’s trying to show me some of what Atlanta’s got to offer in terms of hang outs. One of my coworkers (Brandon) worked on the Incredible Hulk video game, and another (Wayne) worked for The Orphanage for a while on movies like Live Free or Die Hard (He modeled my favorite truck!!)

I’m getting used to it down here. Got into a routine of exercising after work and shooting a few games of pool every other night. I’ve got plenty of time to doodle and dick around the apartment, so after the set of things I’m working on, I think I’ll start wrapping up the concepts and start modeling characters for Scooter’s Wings. It’s a short I want to do.
Now that I’ve got the internet hooked back up it’s a lot easier to stay in touch with people. I’m still texting and calling people like it’s my job, but I’m enjoying hearing from everyone.

Hopefully I’ll have some work to post for you all soon.
Cheers!
